As with other components of the tractor and trailer electrical system, correctly sized cables and connectors are important to proper electrical performance and safety. Tin-plated and heavy wall lugs and terminals are preferred and the method of connector attachment is critical. Where possible, purchase cable assemblies such as those from Tectran that are factory crimped using tight tolerance equipment. Be sure to use heat shrink tubing for insulation, strain relief and corrosion protection. Be sure to eliminate corrosion on battery and electrical device connection points before cable installation and take the precaution of adding protection against mechanical and weather damage once installed.
